UDelNet now supports longer passwords
New UDelNet passwords must now be at least eight characters long and may contain up to 30 characters. Eight- to nine-character passwords must pass a dictionary check; longer passwords must include at least three out of four kinds of characters (upper case letter, lower case letter, number, "any other character except a 'space.'") Your information is only safe if your password is secure.
Videoconference on NLM federal grant-funding opportunities set
Information Technologies is holding a federal grant-funding workshop on Wednesday, April 27. The interactive videoconference, The National Library of Medicine (NLM/NIH): Biomedical Informatics Grant Programs. NLM's Extramural Programs awards biomedical informatics grants for training, research and development.

Indiana University's Robert Gonyea to present at "Speaking of Teaching" Roundtable
The need for more comprehensive student writing initiatives at the University of Delaware were among the items discussed by University of Delaware Provost Tom Apple at the Faculty Senate's first meeting of the 2010-11 academic year. In his remarks, Apple suggested that the University consider the establishment of a more rigorous writing program for students in all disciplines and across the curriculum. At an April session of the spring UD Faculty Roundtable series, "Speaking of Teaching," Robert Gonyea, associate director of the Center for Postsecondary Research at Indiana University, will present "Getting More without Assigning More: How Good Writing Practices Relate to Student Engagement and Learning."
Essay examines using wiki as part of British literature course
Christopher Penna, associate professor in the Department of English at the University of Delaware, has had his essay, “Vision and Revision: Using Wikis to Produce and Present Undergraduate Research,” published by the Learning Technology Consortium on its Essays on Teaching with Technology website.
The Learning Technology Consortium is a partnership of nine institutions (including the University of Delaware) that have strong technology and faculty support programs and are interested in collaborating on teaching and learning with technology.
UD email users may see more phishing incidents
Although the data breach at Epsilon, the world's largest permission-based email service, will not have any direct effects on UD email users, we can all expect to see more spam and phishing scams as a result. Email addresses for customers at about 20 companies were exposed.
